Somerville Cares

In order to counterbalance the previous story of terrible customer service, I thought I'd tell a story of awesome customer service.

I live in Somerville, MA, and they have the most amazing service ever: automated calls to tell you about important events.

Are they going to start deconstructing the road to my house? They call and tell me where and when it will be closed! Is a snow emergency being declared so I have to make sure I'm not parked in a no-snow-emergency-parking spot? They call and tell me! Their dialer is even smart enough to be able to leave a message properly on an answering machine. Amazing technology, isn't it?

The whole idea of some entity actually calling me with information I want to receive is almost completely foreign. Based on previous experience, I might've thought that there was a law against large entities making outgoing calls, unless they have no prior relationship with you and want to sell you something.

Wouldn't it be nice if more companies could proactively inform you of important issues?
